Est. 2012

Philosophy/Mission:  We believe that exercise keeps both ends of the leash happiest and healthiest, and so strive to offer that in all of our services.  Either in our fitness classes where both you & your dog are exercising, or during our training focused dog walks & runs where we mentally & physically tire the canine end, we use positive based methods that make training effective and fun.  We also incorporate these beliefs in all of our board & train dog’s stays.

Claim to Fame or Signature Product or Service:  Fitness classes for you and your dog!  We offer a time saving program which helps achieve dog owners’ personal fitness goals while simultaneously tiring out their dogs and teaching them a few manners & tricks along the way.  This was the beginning to what started us off, and has since developed into training focused dog walks, and board & train.

Community Involvement:  We love to support local rescues, as we believe the work they do is so important, and we want to support them in any way we can.  At our 1 year anniversary party we offered a raffle for all our party-goers, and were able to donate over $400 to Born Again Pit Bull Rescue from it!  We are also very active in the Oregon Humane Society community.

Philosophy/Mission: Our mission is simple:  to be your dog’s best friend while they are in our care.  Whether they’re being pampered and coifed in the grooming and pet spa, enjoying a day of daycare with their other best friends, or having an overnight sleepover while you’re traveling … we care for your dog’s body, mind and spirit!  We strive to be a one-stop shop for your best friend.  Everything we do starts with the goal of making A Dog’s Best Friend your dog’s favorite place away from home.  We create experiences that are positive, safe, fun (even educational) and ultimately help to make your best friend an even better companion.

Claim to Fame/Signature Product or Service: Our signature product is the staff.  They create a relationship with your dog and become your dog’s best friend (while you are away).  This special bond allows your dog to have the best experience possible.  Whether in the grooming and pet spa, the daycare, or as an overnight guest, our staff makes your dog a priority!  After all, our goal is to know your dog and its special needs.

Proprietor:  Heather Macfarlane

House Calls, Phone Consultations

503-309-6673 * HeatherMacfarlane.com

Est. 2009

Philosophy/Mission: My nutrition philosophy looks at the whole animal.  Proper nutrition has the ability to prevent disease as well as balance physical, mental and emotional health.  I will help you choose the foods your pet will thrive on and not just survive on!  I view food as medicine and believe in the power of whole food ingredients.  A fresh and live, balanced diet will give your dog or cat the tools their bodies need to maintain a healthy and long life by your side.

Claim to Fame/Signature Product or Service: Balanced By Nature is the only pet nutrition consulting company of its kind.  I have a unique combination of experience that has shaped my knowledge base.  For the past 20 years, I have worked with numerous veterinarians and pet nutrition experts, pets and their guardians.  My greatest teachers have been the countless dogs and cats who are always eager, honest, and grateful.

I can teach you how to prepare your pet's meals in the comfort of your own kitchen!  Your pet's diet can be balanced and delicious; using fresh and local ingredients you prepare and serve yourself.  Your pet will love you for trading in the bag of processed "kibbles" for fresh meats, vegetables and fruits.  Rethink the “bag” and move toward whole food nutrition for your furry family member!

Top Dog - Innovative Programming in Animal Welfare

Winner: Fences For Fido

Portland

503-621-9225 * FencesForFido.org

Est. 2009

Philosophy/Mission: All-volunteer nonprofit Fences For Fido builds fences at no cost in its mission to free dogs from the frustration and loneliness of life outside at the end of the chain.  They also provide every Fido a custom-built, insulated dog house and warm bed.  For some, it’s the first time they’ve experienced or known freedom, real shelter, or even comfort.  FFF’s volunteer fence-building crews celebrate the unchaining of each Fido, marking the event as one of the happiest in the dog’s and the family’s life.  The group builds fences to allow families to form closer bonds with their dogs, extending love and care far beyond the broken chains.  Volunteer members of FFF revisit Fidos served yearly, making sure they remain safe, healthy, and chain free.  In truth, they say, the volunteers’ lives are deeply touched and inspired by what they witness on every fence-build day.

Claim to Fame/Signature Product or Service: Fences For Fido is less than 5 years old, and they’ve already moved mountains for Oregon’s chained dogs.  To date, they have unchained and provided insulated dog houses for more than 650 dogs!

Community Involvement, Special Notes: In 2013, Fences For Fido was instrumental in helping pass Oregon’s House Bill 2783, which clarifies the requirements for humane care, shelter and bedding, and limits the number of hours statewide that a dog can be tethered.  In short, this new law effectively eliminates chaining as a primary means of confining a dog, and gives law enforcement a tool to better educate families about responsible pet ownership.  Fences For Fido will continue to help Oregon families as they work to comply with this new law, and will openly share best practices with individuals and organizations around the country as they unchain dogs in their own communities.
