Outdoor Greyhound Playdate

Volunteers needed to help us make this a safe and fun playdate – email volunteernw@gpa-nw.org if you can help for a hour or more.

Join us for a playdate with your hounds. Let them run in a safe fenced area. Bring your muzzle. Water will be provided. Entry Fee is $10 per dog. Merchandise may also be available for purchase.

Play Date Rules for Safety

All dogs must wear muzzles in the play area.

All dogs must be accompanied by an adult over 18 in the play area – dogs may not be dropped off and picked up later.

If you need to leave the play area for a short period such as a restroom break, please designate another adult to watch your dog or remove the dog and take them with you.

Senior dogs or shy dogs can play is a smaller fenced area with supervision.

Only greyhounds are allowed in the play area.

Children are allowed in the play area, but must be supervised by an adult over 18 and are the adult’s responsibility – note that a pack of twenty 75 pound dogs running around can knock over most adults and small children might be better outside the fence.

If your dog is scared, anxious or just doesn’t want to play, please remove them from the play area.

Please don’t bring your dog if they are sick or injured.

Water will be provided for dogs – they don’t need to take off their muzzles to drink.

Don’t bring food, treats or toys into the play area – dogs may be resource guarders and not want to share.

Always pick up your dog’s poop – receptacles will be provided.

Keep your leash with you in case you need to quickly grab your dog – don’t hang them on the fence and walk away.

The field is large and you must keep an eye on your dog even if they are far away – avoid using phones and other distractions.

Know your dog’s limitations and when they are ready to leave please take them out of the play area so they don’t get overwhelmed.

Paint Your Pet

Join Bottle & Bottega Portland and Oregon Dog Rescue for a painting party! NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED. Step-by-step painting instruction provided. $10 from each ticket sold will be directly benefiting Oregon Dog Rescue so they can continue saving pups and finding their furever homes.

Make sure to bring a picture of your pet!! We suggest choosing a photo that is a head and shoulders image of you looking eye-level (not down at) with your pet. It's also easiest if it's printed on a normal 8 1/2 X 11 piece of paper (so you can fold it).

Volunteer Animal Caretaker Orientation at Lighthouse Farm Sanctuary

Want to be more involved with Lighthouse? Join us for our first Volunteer Animal Caretaker Orientation of the year! This hour-long orientation will get you acquainted with the sanctuary and what the expectations are for this volunteer position. Afterward, we will be scheduling training sessions for those interested.

MORE ABOUT THE POSITION: We are looking to grow our weekly volunteer staff to better serve the almost 300 animals that we care for. In this position, you will work closely with the animals - making sure their living areas are clean and safe and providing simple routine medical care (which you will be trained for) and general maintenance to ensure that the sanctuary is well maintained. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about how to care for animals. You must be motivated, able to work independently, able to lift 50+ pounds on an ongoing basis, and able to commit to 3-5 hours a week between Monday and Thursday on a consistent schedule. More detailed information will be presented at the orientation.

Lighthouse is an all-volunteer non-profit with no paid staff. We depend on volunteers to keep the sanctuary operating. Come join the largest and oldest sanctuary in the state and help us rescue more animals in need!

The 16th annual live and silent auction takes place on Friday, March 8th, 2019 at the CH2M Hill Alumni Center on the OSU campus. Ticket price includes dinner and wine/beer/hard cider as well as non-alcoholic drinks. The silent auction precedes the dinner and live auction.

All funds raised support the programs of Heartland Humane Society. At Heartland we serve the animals and families of Benton County. Our organization provides an open door animal shelter where we care for approximately 1700 animals each year. Programs include lost & found services, affordable adoptions, pet foster care, Safe Housing Program, humane education programs, pet food bank, and behavior counseling referrals. Our mission is to build a more compassionate community by teaching humane messages to our youth, caring for homeless animals and strengthening the human-animal bond. Heartland's educators reach hundreds of Benton County youth through humane education programs in schools, shelter clubs and camps, and through youth volunteering opportunities.

Heartland is not affiliated with any other local or national organization and receives no tax dollars; our work is made possible only by the generosity of people like you.
