This time of year is kitten season and the shelters are filled with little fuzzballs.  The weekend is filled with adoption and other events for the cat lover in you.  Kitty events include Furry Friends of Washington at the Recycled Arts Festival, Kitten Palooza, Cat Adoption Team and the metro area’s largest cat adoption event, a volunteer orientation at CAT, and the Amazing Acro-Cats at the Aladdin Theater, an amazing and educational show featuring over a dozen rescue cats that will delight the audience.

Not to leave out the canines, there is Bark for Life of Beaverton, a walk to benefit cancer, Golden Bond Rescue’s Golden Vintage dinner and a volunteer orientation at MCAS.

Moving into the busy event season, this weekend there are tons of events on tap including the 25th Annual Walk/Run for the Animals for the Humane Society for Southwest Washington, Pooches on the Plaza in downtown Portland and the 18th Annual Furball, the Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon’s biggest fundraiser of the year among many other fun pet-related happenings.

Circle the date for the biggest pet event of the year as the streets of downtown Portland close down for Doggie Dash, to benefit the animals at Oregon Humane Society.  Also, upcoming is the Eugene area’s walk/run event, Bark in the Park benefitting Greenhill Humane Society.

With the second day that it really feels like Spring, Jennifer proclaims tomorrow (Friday) as "Get Out with Your Favorite Furry Friend Day" to enjoy the warm sunny weather.

Saturday, there is a Canine Carnival that follows a work party at the Tualatin City Dog Park.  The carnival is an Oregon Humane Society event.  Also, on Saturday, there are Animal Communication sessions at the Body-Mind-Spirit Expo with Ute Luppertz of Pets Point of View, an Art Auction benefit for the Greyhounds and a dinner/auction for Northwest Battle Buddies.

Upcoming on next Wednesday is a volunteer orientation for West Columbia Gorge Humane Society and Jennifer mentions that it might be a good one to attend as the NW Pet Fair comes up this month and they will be seeking folks to help and get in on the action and fun.

Coming up this weekend are two separate Protect Your Pet clinics with Good Neighbor Vet, Cat Adoption Team volunteer orientation, PAW Team vet clinic, No Place Like Home Dinner/Auction for Must Love Dogs NW, Some Bunny to Love rabbit outreach,  a memorial art therapy workshop at DoveLewis and a canine basic massage 101 class with Rubi Sullivan of Heal NW.

Other events over the weekend include a Yappy Hour hosted by Must Love Dogs NW, Golden Bond Rescue Adoption event at The Filling Station Pet Supplies and an Animal Community Talks presentation on Stress & Fear in Pets at the Vet or at the Shelter.

The International Cat Show begins Friday and runs through the weekend with over 250 cats in all colors, shapes and sizes.  With 2 cans of food for the Oregon Food Bank, admission is $2 off.

With the fairly light roster of events as the month of January winds up, Jennifer lets us know that February is Spay/Neuter Awareness month.  The Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon will be having free spay/neuter services, vaccines, flea treatments and more for feral and stray cats in the community.  Contact the Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon for more info.

Circle the dates for January 14 through February 14 for Jake ‘n Max’s Boxes of Love, inspired by the love of two senior dogs, collecting new or gently/used items for senior pets in the community.
