Portland Starlight Parade

A free annual event through the streets of downtown Portland. Oregon Humane Society’s float will feature the Royal Canine Court. One of our most popular events, the Portland General Electric/SOLVE Starlight Parade offers funky, eclectic fun for everyone. From traditional marching bands and flood-lit floats, to glow-in-the-dark umbrellas and unique hand-built entries, you’ll see the best of Portland’s diverse community groups (and surrounding Northwest region) together in one whimsical pageant. 2019 makes for an exciting Starlight Parade as it celebrates more than 40 years in the city of Portland!

The Starlight Parade continues a longtime festival tradition from the early 1900s, when illuminated floats built on electric trolley cars made their way through the city on trolley tracks. Today, participants light up the night with approximately 100 illuminated entries along a 2.25-mile route. The parade draws more than 325,000 spectators to downtown Portland, and is also broadcast live from 9:00 – 11:00 p.m. on FOX 12. Don’t miss the fun of one of the Rose Festival’s best and brightest traditions!

The Portland General Electric/SOLVE Starlight Parade will begin at 8:30 p.m. on June 1, 2019.

NW Author Rob Kugler with "A Dog Named Beautiful"

  • POwell's Books at Cedar Hills Crossing (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

When U.S. Marine Rob Kugler returned from war, he had not only given up years of his life in service to his country, but he had also lost a brother in the fighting. Lost in grief, Kugler found solace and relief in the one thing that never failed to put a smile on his face: his chocolate lab, Bella. But then Bella started to get sick. It was cancer, and the prognosis wasn’t good. Instead of waiting at home for the cancer to spread, Kugler and Bella packed their bags and hit the road. A Dog Named Beautiful (Flatiron) is the uplifting story of a Marine, his extraordinary dog, and the road trip of a lifetime.

The Author will be at Powell’s in Beaverton, along with representatives from NW nonprofit Fences For Fido.

Email a photo of your pet to vancouverartspace@gmail.com The photo will be then be transferred on to a 12x12 or 11x14 canvas and will be ready for you to paint when you come in.
The price of the event includes transfer, canvas, paint, and instruction. In addition, 10% of proceeds from all Paint-Your-Pet Sundays will be donated to the Humane Society for Southwest Washington.
